Bug Club: Awareness Campaign
School closures, while effective in slowing the spread of COVID-19, has left millions of kids who rely on federally subsidized school lunches without access to affordable and healthy meals.
The Bug Club project explores food insecurity, inequity, and intersectionality by addressing one way in which food insecurity experienced by school-age children from low-income households is exacerbated by a pandemic.
The intended audience includes educated, white collar, middle/high income parents who are not currently experiencing food insecurity.
After assessing the goals and message, I determined that the most viable tools for this awareness/fundraising campaign would include a social media graphic for the donors and some sort of package or card for the end user.

After this draft, I designed my own cast of hungry bug characters instead of referencing an existing children’s book.

Experiment in activating the composition.
Multiple requests for a Bug Club sticker pack led to an opportunity in which products of these characters could be used as an incentive for parents to donate money.
This would, in turn, benefit the children who would not otherwise afford to have their school meals delivered.
